IntroductionBloggers Association of Nepal (BLOGAN) is a proposed association of the Nepali bloggers.
The initial proposal for the formation of BLOGAN stated that:
All the bloggers
identified as regular and Nepali by origin would be listed as our
members unless they choose not to, every blogger is a member.
BLOGAN will be a nonpartisan organization dedicated
to promoting, protecting and educating its members; supporting the
development of ‘blogging’ as a distinct form of media; and helping to
extend the power of the press, with all the rights and responsibilities
that entails, to every citizen.
BLOGAN will also celebrate diversity of experience,
purpose and opinion thus creating an environment where they can blog as
freely as they used to as an individual. It will also believe in the
freedom of expression. BLOGAN will accept anonymous bloggers as members provided that it could be confirmed s/he is a Nepali.
A sizable number of bloggers were enthralled by the idea and a few gatherings have already been held.
The first,
on Feb 2, 2007, also marking the black day on which King Gyanendra
seized the power. Participated by a dozen bloggers, the meeting agreed
on principle on following points:
- BLOGAN should not put any restriction on bloggers other than pornography;
- take forward the awareness of blogging by any possible ways like
writing articles in traditional media or lecturing on college students
or organizing workshops
- support, link and promote each other’s blogs
The second, held on February 17 and participated by a dozen, discussed plans for future that included holding blogging
workshops, publishing a book about blogging and then the dream of
holding a big bloggers’ conference in 2008 and awarding best blogs.
The third, held on March 17, had a guest - Singaporean blogger James Gomez who talked about his experience as blogger.
The fourth and the biggest one was held on April 21 and was participated by 24 bloggers.
The meeting decided to have a formal
structure (remained undecided about registering to Nepal Government).
The interim committee was formed with Ujjwal Acharya (co-ordinator), KP
Dhungana, Ghanshyam Ojha, Deepak Adhikari,
Ram Prasad Dahal, Bishnu Dhakal, Rajendra Biswokarma, Avinashi Paudel,
Mohd Tajim, Umesh Shrestha and Tapas Barsimha Thapa.
